What to look for/stay away from?

Postby rexi » Wed Apr 16, 2014 9:05 pm

Hello!

I´m mainly a windsurfer but have been using a 6´8 to surf every now and then. Now i had to have an operation that will limit my paddling abilities for some time. I have been thinking about replacing my 6´8 with a longboard too be able to make more use of small summer surf that will be when i will be water ready again and also might just be a better option for me to make the most out of those few days that i surf per year.

what should i aim for in terms of size (and other factors) for a board that is mainly easy to use and gets me up and going in small surf and bigger but not steep waves? and what should i stay away from?

I´m 187cm (6´13?)
72kg (158lbs)

9ft 22" by 2.3/4" round tail 2+1 longboard. with light rocker.
And who says you can't do steep bigger waves on a longboard?
Stay away from people who think longboards cannot perform.

Thanks for the help! Will start looking for such a board and hopefully be back in the water before too long. Looking forward to try surfing a longboard, never surfed anything bigger then a 6´8.

An interesting thing for you to overcome in your first couple of surfs.
You will probably bury the nose of your board on take off to the length of your short board :!:
Just saying  you get over it pretty quickly though.
