Help With First Board - Longboard vs Funboard

Postby jaw4527 » Thu Apr 17, 2014 8:16 pm

I've done a bunch of reading on the site and the conventional wisdom seems to be that the best board for a beginner is either a fun board around 7'6-8' or a longboard. I'm 29 years old and 5'8/170 lbs and surfed for 14 days recently in san diego on a 9' foamie and am looking to buy my own board. I live in NY and would surf on long island beaches.

Any thoughts on the best board to grab and specifically if any of the below fit the bill? Thanks for the help.

Forget the BICs, if I had the choice it would board number one or board number 4.
With your weight and size I would look more in th 9ft range but either of those two boards is suitable>

thanks for the reply. assuming i can get either for the same price (sellers seem to be open to $500-$550), which would be more suitable for me?

Board number 4 looks like a modern designed longboard with a kick in the tail and nose and hard rails. It apparently is also built to last. These things together mean this board should serve you for a while so it would still be good after you learn to surf...... in my opinion
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
