I've mounted a gopro on my board and have been using it for around 10 sessions. I also crashed it into another surfer feet once and it was fine. Wiped out and perl hard and I still got my gopro. There is a safety cable, if the first sticky pad fail for some reason then there is still the second pad with the safety cable. But I do have to say the cable is very thin and will snap easily so you might want to change it to something else.

If you're really worried then you can use the floaty backdoor or maybe even get a shaper to dig out a hole in your board and mount the fcs plug into the board.

Reviews doesn't seem to be good and few people seem to have lost their gopro.

Old man, if you dont want to attach it to your surf board, u could always get a chest harness?

Thanks Andy , I have given thought about that or a helmet mount. Got to talk to some local surfers and shapers and hear what they say. I don't think the helmet or chest mount would give me the view that I want. If I were more familiar with epoxy I could probably make a loop to attach the camera safety cord to out of fiberglass rope and resin.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

No problems mate, I also see alot of people wearing wrist straps which give a really nice POV, check the "your surf vids" thread on this forum, go to the last page then skip back a page and u will see a POV shot from the wrist :)

Just attached a GoPro mount to the top of my Gath so after curing maybe some POV shots, also looking at the wrist mount but stores down here don't seem to be stocking it yet! :(
Still checking the learning curve with lack of surf not helping.
BTW with the standard Gath with mount on top I look like some sort of NASA early warning system, Black sunnies needed to complete the picture.

So a little update, Bondi low tide hit and they started closing out, I took a wave a little late and didnt get to my feet fast enough to take the drop so ended up wiping out, bouncing along the water a couple of times before going under, upon inspecting my go pro, the mount that attaches the camera to the board snapped in half, I would high recommend a proper surf mount kit + a floaty back door, especially if you are surfing heavier waves / slabs.

I used to have this problem and when I used the go pro I figure out my mistake. Estate into the turn from bum and hips. I normally drop fairly straight and then pull Ito the bottom turn and I was struggling to get my 6'8 round with me. I started to turn with my bum and hips and simples. Hope this helps.

This is how you should hold your go-pro - check it out at about 1min24 (then check out the footage from about the 5min mark)
