Leash Location

Postby CARBr6 » Mon Jan 13, 2014 10:50 am

Hey fellow Longboarders!
Just a quicky, I'venoticed in many videos that riders tend to be wearing there leach strap just below the knee. I've always worn mine around my ankle (as that was what I was told to do when I started) is this purely a preference thing or is there a reason/advantage?

The leash under the knee is a special longboard leash it lessens the likelihood of tripping over the leash whilst walking the board and also lessens the impact on the joint ( ankle) in a wipeout.
You might even notice on older guys who have had hip or knee replacement they wear a broad neoprene support belt to which the leash is attached, It would fairly expensive if a wipeout pulled your leg off

Aha, thanks.
So, do I need to change my current leash then? Or can I wear my leash up there? I have a 9ft leash with a 9ft3 board.

I injured my ankle half a year ago so I started wearing it below the knee. I got skinny legs so I didn't have to get a different one. It does feel a lot better than having it tied to the ankle.

But quite often I step on the leash after I popup. Sometimes it gets tangled on my feet/toe so it is pretty annoying.

If your leash works don't change it until you need a new one.
BTW I always have a spare leash around, more like about 3, ready for replacement.

Extra uses for leashes lying around,
substitute clothes line,
dog lead ,
shark attack tourniquet,
tie down for board on roof rack.
lousy waterski rope.
guy rope for tent.
