Where abouts do you surf? going to have a car for a few days before I have to return it, already had a quick paddle out with drowningbitbybit, would be good to do the same with you and get to see some other breaks!

It seems the more breaks I surf, the more I learn and the more I improve

Nice Videos 55 and fun but why not get a helmet attachment and then people can see the down the line vision of your wave , standard vision from the nose of the board gets old fairly quickly to the viewer.
Great tool for checking out your pop ups and other stuff I'm experimenting with an arm band and a pole which i pull out and shoot after I'm riding nothing good yet though!

Hi Jaffa,

Thanks for the tips and yep am starting to think about different angles.

I agree the camera on top would get some good footage. I will post as I go.

Hi Peazz

mainly surf northern beaches and I enjoy palm a lot.

Palm is good in small conditions and its a good place to get out if the crowd.

I surf Nth curly on and off in a nor Easter but it gets crowded and Queenscliff mainly because I surfed their heaps when I was younger

I'm finally ready to post a video of mine.

Hi guys,

every "ride" in the video is my average ride at that point in time.
Now I have a new beautiful longboard and i still don't know about putting the gopro on it.
we'll see

Cheers!

Wow, that is a beautiful long boarding wave - somewhere in QLD I presume?

I love how your video shows 'estimated hours' of surfing and how after 50 hours or so you suddenly 'zoom up' in terms of skill level - I noticed that too when I was learning. Struggle, struggle, struggle then everything clicks and you are catching and riding waves like you have been doing it for years. A good lesson for other beginners as to the time required but how quickly things improve once the 'hump' is overcome.

Thanks 312T4, it's really interesting to watch your progression. You just have to watch what your feet are doing to see the impovement in your skill level. Start - feet planted. End - back and forth back and forth.

Good stuff 312T4, big improvement.
An exercise I can suggest to even out your movement back and forward on the board; is to set up a dance studio at home, the studio is the outline of your board on the floor.
See if you can cross step forward and backwards ( it keeps the board much more balanced) it looks great as well as being effective.
I notice that you always stand erect, you can crouch and grab the outside rail to punch through a white water section and you can also resort to pigdogging a steeper takeoff section and hold the rail.
Your grin says you are getting it and even a bit of goofy foot prime, going left.
Should be a sticky for learners to see!!!!!!

I'm just watching it again and it's really clear the difference between body positioning and head positioning between O hours and 60 hours. At 60 hours you look SOOO much more comfortable and relaxed (and therefore smoother) and you are really looking to where you want to go and the board is just gliding there. I agree with Uncle Jafffa, this should be a sticky for beginners (I know I'm certainly going to be studying it a bit more before my next outing!!)
Thanks for posting.

Hi guys,
thank you for all your feedback and encouragement!

Yes, those waves are all filmed in Noosa and Rainbow Bay, Coolangatta.

And yes, the stoke is massive every time I know I have a good ride! :D

I always try to follow your suggestions. It's not always easy done, specially when you don't live at the beach.
Also recording myself has been, and still is, a great help, as I can see why I wipe out and what I'm doing in general, and compare myself to other guys on youtube.

Jaffa is right. I almost never crouch down. I do it sometimes, and I grab the rail if needed. But it's not my favourite thing to do because I'm always going backhand and I think it's less natural. For me at least.
But I have to say that surfing those points backhand gave me "more vision" and I'm always more aware of what the wave is doing on the left. Much more that my "regular" friends that never ever turn left. In fact my big move now is surfing the wave both side like in the last clip.

Guys, I'm so stoked! :D

cheers

I grew up with Dee Why Point as my home break a fearsome right hander ( I'm goofy and so are my feet) this made me develop more vision and great backhand turns.
keep going my your find your left hand pointbreak!
