Travelling with your board(s)

Postby CARBr6 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 10:32 am

Okay, so now that me and the missus have our own boards I'm looking at some overseas surf trips, what are peoples thoughts on taking your own board?
Who is the cheapest (UK) airline for transporting boards?
Most companies seem to be around the £50-£70 mark for taking the board, is it worth using the hire boards at the surf camp?

I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

I go on 2 trips per year. I take my own board. I know my board, and I feel more confident on my own board, compared to a board I've never caught waves on. And, wherever I'm going, may not have a board exactly to the specifications I'm looking for. I'm not going to have as much fun on a board thats not my board. I'm not going to catch as many waves, and not as much stoke. And whats the purpose of a surf trip? To catch waves and be stoked!

BUT, it is a pain in the ass traveling with a board. Board bag fees from the airlines are becoming crazy. You have to worry about the board getting dinged up and damaged. If you decide to take your own board, make sure you buy a good travel bag, and pack it really well.
