Concussion....

Postby Dead_One » Mon Oct 28, 2013 9:04 am

Just back from a weeks holiday in Cornwall, some great surfing, managed to come back with my first board, my first drop in and along the line surf, and a concussion.....
gotta take the good with the bad i guess... surfboards hurt:-)
the 500 mile drive home while feeling drunk in a storm was fun.... :D :D :D

Please do not treat concussion lightly. The possibility of it being serious in consequences are great.
Please have a medical check up!

boards good:-) got a 7'10 take off minimal, a few dings, nothing major. not the worlds best board, but more than enough for me at the moment:-) at least it lets me get out paddling about in between visits to places that actually have surf:-)

accident was a stupid thing, was out in fairly small surf, 1-3 ft waves, rogue set appears out of nowhere, tumbled me about a bit, when i got back up another wave picked my board up and smashed it into my head, just alongside my temple..
Didn't think much at the time, but the next morning i still felt drunk, same the day after, so i thought either i had a great night last night and cant remember, or something wasn't right... worst bit was i had a 500+ mile drive home, as i needed to get people back for work/ school :-( that wasn't fun...

Wow! I have been lucky when it comes to getting hit by my board....so far.....
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Your first drop in and along the line surf - great stuff. Hope the knock did not take the shine off it.

I'm glad you are ok. I think this is a good reminder for us still learning to surf. I started being more careful after a few close calls wiping out on 5 ft waves. I didn't actually hit my head, but came really close once. I much prefer 3ft waves now, while I get more confident in my surfing.

It's always on the small days isn't it? When it's big, I pay attention to what's going on
