Cocoa Beach FL over Xmas break

Hey All,

I'm going to be in the Cocoa Beach area over Christmas Break this year. Is the surf consistent enough that I should bring my own board? Wetsuit thickness? Also, tips on where to surf would be great too.

yes, the surf at Cocoa is consistent in Winter. If you do not want to bother bringing a board, know you can easily rent one at Ron Jons and Cocoa Beach Surf Company. These stores are across the street from one another and a 2 to 3 minute walk to the pier. Look for the fun hump mid-way out on the south side of pier. That's where i surf when i go there.

If you normally surf in cold water, then a 3/2 wetsuit is adequate. I've surfed some late Winter / early Spring days there with only a rash guard.

Thanks Billie! At that time of the year I'm usually in a 5/4. Do you think I could get away with a 2mill top?

You just might. But, to be on the safe side, bring a 3/2 suit. If you don't have one, then you can rent or buy at the two stores mentioned above. By the way, these stores are massive and are destinations unto themselves. Ron Jons is even open 24hr/ day. There is tons of stuff in each store and Cocoa Beach Suef Company has a salt water fish tank so large that when serviced inside the tank, the diver is completely submerged.

Enjoy and don't forget to eat some grilled grouper po' boy sandwiches while in the area. That and oysters are kind of the local thing to eat.

Actually, windswells are much more typical than groudswells and the best wave direction is from the southeast.
