Wooden boards !! and ol' Roy

Postby CheeZee » Fri Jun 10, 2005 12:11 pm

Hey all ! ..

after wandering thru various forums , i have found that old ' Roy ' gets a massive amount of sheeeet' from dudes ! (and yes some of it is hella' funny gulfsurfer  )

... but someone please clear this up for me ?! ..
"yep i have been to his site and damn yeh.. the prices of his boards are err' killer but is that the main reason he gets all this s*** or is it that just few people believe in wooden boards anymore for obvious reasons im sure but are wooden boards not regarded as old , old skool ??!! .. i am asking for real as my knowledge of board history only goes back to last summer !!

does anyone else make wooden boards ? are they better and cheaper than roys ' ?! ....

alot of people still make wooden surfboard and a hell of alot cheaper and better than roys i think the reason he gets so much stick from people is becuse he is very arogent he is allways right no matter what he considers all moden longboard shappers ignorent becuse they dont make surfboards like him

hes just a troll he posts on forums just to wind others up swaylocks baned him becuse of his personal attacks and constant promoting of the power surfboards he even created an account on there pretending to be his wife and had ago at them, it seems these days you cant go on a surfing forum with out him turning up making outragious coments like by claiming he was going 27mph on a surfboard by watching a video then wondering why everyone started laughing at him

Hello there Phil.

Just to set you straight on a few points there. .

1) The price of the Power Surfboard is high, but I am entitled to ask what I like. Please notice that unlike most other manufacturers, I offer complete plans for the home builder. Currently there are a handful of surfers around the globe building Power Surfboards and I help them every step of the way via email if necessary, and I do this for free. I encourage people to build their own timber boards. A big timber board can be built at home for a couple of hundred pounds.

2)The Power surfboard has several design features which make it a remarkably efficient waveriding tool.. . unlike yorself I have ridden both Power Surfboards and conventional surfboards and am thus in a good position to judge the difference. Your comment that other wooden boards are 'better' is a personal opinion and you are entitled to it of course, but it seems that it is based on very little.

3) Conventional longboards tend to have certain design anomalies which inhibit their performance in basic surfing terms (Speed and control). This is easily demonstrated but of course is not easily accepted by those who have struggled their way up the surf industry hierarchy.

4)You say that I am just a troll who only posts to wind people up. You are mistaken. . . . I am a builder of wooden boards, a surfer, and a surfboard designer, and I am thus entitled to speak. My main aim in posting is to communicate ideas.

5)My wife has been fully involved in building and designing surfboards since 1996, and has been doing surf photography for at least 7 years. The lady has a right to speak also, and was in fact the author of her own posts on Swaylock's.

6)Regarding speed, I must point out that our claim of 27mph was based on a video analysis, and was reasonably accurate. 27mph is easily achievable on small waves with the right board and isn't a great speed at all. Feel free to spout of about it if you wish. . . .you will get egg on your face if you do because we are going to be posting some gps based speed runs in the future and I can tell you for a fact that 27 mph is a conservative estimate of what we are achieving in the water. To put it bluntly, I do my homework and am a logical person, whereas you seem to deal only in group emotion and other fuzzy concepts.

7)Regarding the 'flak' which I get on the net. . .it's all part of the publicity game. . .and along with it I get a lot of support. . .standing out from the crowd one has to expect to attract hecklers and trolls, it's all good, I don't mind it really as I have a solid foundation to back up what I say, and have been trained to deal with public life since an early age. You are right about a lot of the 'Sheet' which goes down as being funny, I find it funny too!

8)May I suggest that you may have a laugh on me anytime you like, but don't expect to get away with telling lies about me in public, ok?

I see that you are posting a link to a source for wooden boards by Tom Wegener.

Tom's boards are very nice, and Tom, unlike yourself, is able to discuss wooden boards rationally. Tom and I have swapped notes regarding the performance differences of our respective machines and are in agreement about surfboard design in general. Tom's wooden big boards emphasise early wave catching and maximum glide, whereas mine are all rounders which are designed to be looser and handle hollow waves at the expense of some paddling and wave catching ability.

You could perhaps take a lesson from Tom yourself, and try to see things for what they are in design terms rather than just indulging in social knee jerking.

And BTW, 'Decent' is not a meaningful surfboard performance term.

See you later!

:D
