Have you ever snaked someone?

Postby PandaJosh » Sun Sep 22, 2013 7:44 pm

I think I snaked a person yesterday it's just that I wasn't looking I just tried to catch this nice looking wave. I've been timing to get in this wave I 'm still a beginner but I wanted this wave. Question is have you ever seen a good wave you wanted and you just had to take it? This is my first time taking a persons wave

I don't know snaking is pretty hard to do which is why usually more experienced surfers do it, are you sure you just didn't drop in late?

That'll be the start of that famous slippery slope that you're on.
A good wave that you wanted? That'll be a good wave that the other guy should have had.

But as already said, to genuinely snake someone is quite hard to do, and I can't imagine an experienced surfer letting a beginner do that to them.

Yeah, newbs are the only exception. If I know a newb with a foamie only goes straight then I do paddle for the wave, because even though I am dropping in on him/her we won't be anywhere near each other

A little help here for you a snake is where you go for another persons wave often by turning around and paddling inside them closer to the curl even though they have committed for the wave, if you do it outside them further away from the curl than them, then it's a drop in.

It happens to all of us we miss seeing the other surfer or sometimes it is just time to assert yourself and take a turn.
And it is difficult to snake someone if you are a beginner but much easier to drop in, usually results in you receiving an in your face explanation of "the rules".
So I wonder which one you think you did!

I did this just yesterday!
I was hideously dropped in on by someone on a foamie, and we eventually collided, and so I had to explain the rules - but politely and helpfully, little point in shouting at newbies! :D
