HIC or T&C

Postby Shaka » Fri Jun 03, 2005 4:23 pm

I am going to Hawaii on June 25. I am currently contemplating between the HIC Andy Irons model and the T&C Dustin Cuizon model. Keep in mind that I want to have fun on waves in hawaii but in Galveston, the waves are about knee to chest high but fairly choppy. I would like your thoughts on both of these models and I am going to set up a poll. I do weigh 125 lbs and i am 5'7" if that information will help. Thanks

Neither if you want to use it in galveston also...

And don't get a pro model, unless you're a big high performance surfer you won't like it and I can tell you're not because you're asking which one you want.

There's some good shapers on the gulf, find one and ask them to make you a board for hawaii, talk to gulfsurfer and see who he likes.

SPD (Stepehen Pearson) makes awesome boards. Shoot him an email spd@elride.net
If you've been surfing a while and want a shortboard, get something wide and thick. Since you're going to hawaii in the summer the waves will be alot more forgiving then in the winter. You will also need a thicker and wider board for here in texas.
If you are just beginning, get a longboard.

I also have a Fish though so I can ride small waves with that. This board would be if the waves ever got big, such as chest high+. So basically just for chest high+ waves.

You DEFINITELY don't sound like you're at the level where you need a shaper to make you a custom board for 1 trip to Hawaii...unless of course you're rich and dumb.

Agreed on the pro thing too, crawl before you walk, walk before you run...stumble and get up again before all of the above.

Stay grounded within your means and save yourself some $$$ and frustration.

Go to your local shop and ask them what board you should be on for your skill set. Don't factor in a single trip to the islands. At the level you're at, I'm guessing the board you take to Hawaii won't matter anyways.

Concentrate on your home break before you become a PRO and jet set off to Hawaii. Don't think you're gonna step off a plane over there and dazzle somebody, you'll have your butt handed to you a million different ways and it'll be a humbling experiencec. Just take your board for home surf on your trip and have fun with it.

Just my .02

Good luck.
