Bali -Sanur Xmas/Wet Season 2013 is the surf crowded

Postby Kneelo50+ » Sun Sep 01, 2013 7:33 am

Just wondering if anyone has stayed over in Sanur during the Xmas period and what their trip was like and where to surf early in the morning. Info on some of the breaks as you read certain websites and there is always the mention of crowded by Japanese tourist, localism at the reef etc. We are staying in a villa near the Hyatt and only 5mins walk from the beach, as Bali is on Western Australian time I plain to be up early each morning for a surf around 5:00am. I'm not a novice but I don't think I'm an intermediate kneelo just yet. Any info would be great I should have a couple of days arranged with a guide by the name of Leo Walsh as well.

Cheers

let's put the east coast on your radar! Hyatt reef is well offshore 2ks and is wind fickle, not crowded as much because of this but you are also out toward the Lombok strait currents hit on the high tide.
Tanjung Sari is a kiddys' break lefts and right in front of the markets and the hotel of the same name.
My best recommendation for a cripple ( said affectionately as my son rides a kneeboard as I do on fun occasions ) would be Sri Lanka in front of Club Med.

Sanur itself is fickle and when small dangerous and sections badly depositing the a=unwary on shallow reef hard hospitalising hard!!

I haven't mentioned Nusa Dua, big deep water take off and major currents think Cow Bommie/ sunset beach type waves, you will be putting all your experience on line as a waterman if you elect to hit this.
Always bigger than it looks from shore with sneaker sets.

Wet season run off is a problem with lots of pollution you do not want to have enter your body in any way, bathe any cuts with a betadine solution and clean out any gunk as well>

Really Leo Walsh should get you plugged in to waves that suit your ability! I'd be talking to him by email now and get your thoughts sorted.
Have fun

Thanks Jaffa, will be meeting up with Leo in the 4th Oct as the wife and I are heading over for a week staying at Seminyak from the 1st will have a new board by Dave Parkes to run with so really looking forward to it. Have two days sorted with him then so plan to hit up on where to go for when we catch up in Dec. Had to laugh hadn't heard that term in a long long time as we're all known kneelos now haha. I've been reading up where I can on various websites and Tanjung was going to be one of my first picks. So on your advise Tanjung will be good for the early mornings don't mind if it's classed as a kiddys break as long as I get a surf. Does it take long to get to Sri Lanka from Sanur and from your experience is it a regular and decent break during the Wet. Will take heed of your advise on Sanur as even reading up on it didn't sound to promising for my level and certainly don't need bark coming of the head of body. Thanks Jaffa appreciate the advice. Will keep you updated.

Cheers

Pick up the latest Indo surf Guide and lingo by Peter Neely ( sort of appropriate name) has a good range of spots and what you can expect on any size swell>
A good basic get to know Indo book I recommend!

You will be a novelty event a 50+ Kneelo, with a new Parksy well done go well!

Since I'm 64 + it is a valuable asset, have a kneeboarder pic, as encouragement at Nemberala Roti Nusa Tengarra ( west Timor)
