Huntington Beach L.A.?

Postby avillax » Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:02 am

After asking you guys for places to go surfing in L.A. most of you recommended El Porto, although right now it's been like 3 weeks of flat summer, and looking through the reports I found out that Huntington Beach is having some waves and it's the same distance to El Porto for me.

What can you tell me about HB? how are the waves and specially how is the crowd compared to El Porto?
Places to park etc. Thanks.

I like the HB pier. The water is a beautiful translucent green and the waves have some push to them. The waves break for 1/4 to 1/2 mile north and south of the pier, so there are many areas for surfers to spread out.

I also like surfing around Newport Beach pier. It is more mellow than HB pier and the smaller HB surf breaks.

Sometimes Seal Beach north of HB and San Clemente south of HB offer nice change of scenery.

I grew up in suburbia and the country side. Limited and/or paid parking make me a little bit crazy because it was not an element in my youth. You'll find plenty of both at HB and Seal Beach. However, there are some large paid parking lots near the HB pier, so you can usually find a spot.

Hello, I was there yesterday and today, it is good. No localism and not crowded, many breaks, good vibe. The break is fast and steep at the left of the pier, it's kind of scary because you can easily get smashed against the pier since the current is CRAZY drags you hard to the right side of the beach.

In San Diego I wasn't used to paying park meters, didn't have problem finding parking place, but had to paid, is there a place here where you don't have to pay? Will try newport Beach. Thanks.

Cool, avillax!
Yes, the waves are as you described. I failed to tell you about it.
And yes, you get to pay for parking all around Orange County.

The 1st time I surfed at HB, I caught the 1st wave that came my way. It was steep, fast, and green. I was right next to the pier. The wave was tall and I could see tourists watching me. I was so excited that I almost fell off. But, i didn't and it was cool because i was surfing world renowned HB.

Hello, I went to 3 places today>

Anderson Street, according to the Surf report it was supposed to have 2-3 feet fun waves. In reality it was flat and no surfers, only advantage: you don't have to pay parking here. Can anyone give me more info on this beach? it was flat like I said.

Then looking through the beach I saw a jetty far away, and it seemed like there were waves but I wasn't sure and wasn't willing to walk that far just to find out so I took my car and parked at "SURFSIDE" which is like a private community, there is a parking lot outside but it was only for guests and I got kicked out, also didn't see any beach access, so it seems the only way to get there is walking from Anderson st.
Any info on this spot?

Then I want to Seal Beach, on Seal Beach Boulevard, didn't know exactly where the surfing spot is,, so I parked on seal street which is the first street after crossing the pacific cost hwy on Seal Beach Blvd. Parked there, walked to the beach, and it was flat. Any info on this spot?

So I just went back to Huntington beach.
