New Zealand makes artificial waves by using high-technology

As surfing becomes increasingly popular among the world, some scientists of ASR company in New Zealand are trying to make the most perfect artificial waves by using modern high-tech. It is learnt that the company used the bus-sized sand bags, referred to the best crests computer data globally, designed the artificial reefs guided by satellites, finally formed the continuous waves which surfers dreamed of.

Before, ASR company’s scientist, Meader has been to many world-famous surfing sites such as Hawaii and California, Indonesia, Tahiti and Australia, studying the reasons of formation of waves there. Meader said, “ We have confidence in designing different kinds of waves.”

However, he confessed that it was very difficult to make the artificial waves similar to those of Hawaii, Florida and New Zealand, he said. “ The reality is to make the small-scale waves like those of Australia or Bali.”

He introduced that, after researching on seabed, wind, and waves and tidal carefully, they planned to use discarded dredge boats to fill the 20-meter sand bags, then they would put these 300-ton weight jumbo into the bottom of sea by GPS. In this way, according to the height and the steep degree of these “reefs”, they can design both waves suitable for beginners and high-level players.

It is estimated that the project would cost about 1.2 million NZD ($ 496900), it is said that the local government has allocated 400000 NZD to ASK company.

Sunlyff you need to research a little more thoroughly about your posts instead of just rehashing an article from a Chinese magazine of 2012.

ASR is known to all our English surfers for designing and placing a reef that is a dismal failure at Bournemouth.
It failed for two reasons lack of swell and the structure broke down.

There are numerous project that ASR are involved with many are worthwhile IMO the jury may well be still out over their surfing reefs!

Need i say anymore. This reef is right on my doorstep and to be frank was the biggest pile of poop ever thought of. Cost something like 3 million and it is useless for anything.
We could have had two flowriders installed on the seafront for that money, at least they would have worked and generated income.
Its funny you hear of people being duped out of their savings by conmen but local councils!!!!

I think that's where the photo above was taken, I might be wrong about that though.

Come to think of it Kitey's doorstep would have made a better reef!

Part of the reason we like to surf is to enjoy natural elements; not artificial.
We also like the unpredictability and accessibilty logistics. While some tourists may enjoy a carnival ride, most true surfers do not.

ASR suck. The "reef" consists of just a few sandbags with a life expectancy of a few years at most and the company is devious and avoids accountability and responsibility.
