Beginner Looking to Buy First Board

I was out in san diego for 10 days and surfed for the first time and I'm hooked. I spent a lot of my time there surfing on a 9' soft top longboard and am looking to buy my first board. I live in NYC and will surf on Long Island at tobay beach or at Rockaway Beach. I'm 5'8 and 170 lbs. Any advice on a good board for me to start off with/recommendations on the best place to buy? It's a touch small - you'd be better of with a something around 8ft - but not disastrously so and you'd get there if you put the time and effort in.
