Reccomendations for Early July

Postby Dantastic1985 » Tue May 07, 2013 7:55 pm

Hi All,

Sadly the mrs cannot get the time off we were looking for and now we have to take our weeks holiday in July.

Can anybody reccomend anywhere in Europe thats pretty cheap where there might be a chance of a wave. Or am i kidding myself and should I just concentrate on snorkelling and getting hammered?

Cheers

Dan

hey,
durring summer in Europe, the only reaosonable place to surf are canarian islands. On Gran Canaria you have waves all year round. If you are going with your family, there are surfcamps on gran canaria for adults and families.

Hi,
I really like the Azores for surfing, great breaks, uncrowded with some really cool people and decent food. You could take a package trip there which includes a car and then go exploring, lots of little cool bars and tapas joints everywhere along the coast and it's stunningly beautiful. Deep water, breaking over reef and cobblestone, some really fun waves. The Canaries are mental in July and heavily localised plus tons of European surfers vying for waves. Azores are bliss compared to that.

Is there anywhere you haven't gone? I'm so jealous. Also wondering what I have been doing with my life....

Hi DTC & Jaffa,
Well, yeah, I have travelled more than most people (an addiction of mine) and I lived in some of those places as well which helped! - I have not been to (but want to go & surf): Vancoucer Island, Cape Verde, Madagascar, Puerto Rico, Roti and a lot of really obscure islands in the Pacific. That's about it. Non surfing: Alaska (Jaffa beats me there!!!), Patagonia & Iceland.

We ended up in the Canary Islands, lanzarote. The island was great. Hot, inexpensive and we had a hire car so managed to see all of the island. Sadly only got 3 days of well but my gosh was it nice to be in a shortie and see the bottom of the sea! As an Englishman who's local break is the north east this is the first time not in 5mm rubber without boots and gloves.
