transitioning from a foamboard to ???

Postby jasonsurfer91 » Sun Jul 07, 2013 8:58 pm

Hi im 22 I live right on the beach I bought a foam board about 3 months ago, and have literally surfed everyday, and i am proficient with my foam board. Now im looking to get an actualy board.
a little about where i surf.
Usually the waves a 2-3 ft vey hollow and steep, or around 5ft and very steep, and suggestions on the type of board I should get? Please be very specific thanks ! :)

Hi Jasonsurfer91, it would help if you could give your height and weight etc...in my humble opinion, i would get a longboard or at least a Minimal....but with those boards you may find it hard to surf a hollow break...i am not saying one cant but as a newbie it may be very challenging. You could also search for threads in this forum regarding board choices - there have been loads on them. The general consensus is "Long and wide"...Good luck and keep us updated with your progress etc. Stay stoked!

Look up Jamie O'Brien on YouTube he'll show you what you can do with a foam board.

I ended up getting. 7'0 , 20 x 2 3/4 funboard
Locally shaped for 200 it was a good deal I have yet to surf it
We had swells yesterday from 5-10 ft and I was hoping it
Would be smaller today but it's flat today
