Traveling with a partner or spouse who doesn't surf

Postby Bali Surf » Wed Apr 24, 2013 7:08 pm

Wondering what your experience is traveling on surf trips with a spouse, girlfriend or partner who doesn't surf. I just wrote an article, 5 Tips for Traveling with a Partner Who Doesn't Surf, on the topic and looking for other ideas.

What has been your experience? Were you able to surf as much as you wanted? What tips or tricks do you know that make it a great trip for both of you?

Regards,
Dino

In my opinion you will need to get up early and get your surfing done while your traveling partner or spouse is sleeping. This way you can spend the day with your spouse, girlfriend or partner who doesn't surf. If not they will feel like you are just leaving them in the hotel and they will feel like you don't really care about spending time with them. You may get tired from getting up really early to surf, but if you want to do both, then just sacrifice a little or your sleep vs their time. The other option is to take them surfing with you. This may or may not work depending on if you leave them, or hang out with them in the water. If you get to tired from getting up early, you can always sleep in one day and then get up early to surf again the next day.

Yeah, I agree. One of the options I mention in my blog post is to to find a place where my girlfriend can do other things while I'm surfing such as shopping, spa treatments, yoga and so forth. A remote location may sound romantic when planning, but can get old really quickly if there's nothing to do.

Selamat siang, Bapak Michael, your ideas are great but it would be really good to spread the advertising to a paid advertisement on the site and then a series of information about the culture of Bali so people are not ignorant when they come, your plans deserve a little more than a hooked on URL .
I've been coming to Bali and Indonesia surfing since 1979 now I go far away from the maddening crowds. Like Nusa Tengarra, however a yoga and culture retreat could be a draw back to the real Bali.

Encourage the spiritual traveler and all will go well with the world.

The other thing that happens is when we have a site that gives extra hints and information as opposed to just resort blurb , guess where we point the inquiring posters.
Terima Kasih

@jaffa, will do. Thanks for the comment.

@billie, not sure what a thinly veiled disguise is in reference to, but I post everything as myself. If you want to chat with Bapak Michael, you can reach him at the site.
