Got way caught up in that rant and loved it. Thought everyone was a bit harsh on Roys views as he was only offering his thoughts, you dont have to take them onboard. I have been using Sunscreen for the entire 28 years on this place and will keep using it but am looking for the best over all product. Have been using ella bache but the stuff dries my skin out like crazy. Am using the Island Tribe at the moment and that stuff is off the hook. Lasts longer then any i Have used before and doesn't grease up the hands or board. Cant recommend a better product. However i am always looking for a better solution so i would love to get your recipe Roy. Please send it through when you get a chance.

Cheers all

I think some of Roy's rants are as well constructed as his boards, and most times I enjoy them! Ihope to get to meet Roy in person when I head to his Island.

I use this recipe and it works great. I think it's probably pretty close to what Roy does. Smells great and leaves my skin feeling soft.

I use bees wax though, not bees oil. I don't know if it makes a difference, just what I have on hand.

Well I think its pretty common knowledge there are harmful substances in almost everything, fast food, preservatives, sunscreens, shampoos etc. Substances that have been linked to cancer but just because you use it doesn't mean you will get cancer, sure it has harmful things none is denying that but it would still be better to use sunscreen than to not use it. That being said I am all for a natural sunsreen I switched from spray sunscreen to lotion because spray has more harmful toxins in it. :blah:

I don't think roy is saying don't use sunscreen I think everyone is bashing him for his all natural opinions but using sunscreen with toxins opposed to a all natural sunscreen that is actually good for you may be something to think about. :blah: :woot:

I usually use Aloe Gator because it doesn't wash off. I just tried Surfers Sink SPF 30 and wasn't impressed. It works, but it's more expensive.

In addition I use Zinka for the face, works great.

Aloe gator +1' the only thing is it sticks on a little too well for my liking. Also is uber expensive and makes me break out.

That's why I ordered Surfers Skin SPF 30, to find a cheaper product. But I had to use more lotion than with Aloe Gator.

Just a public question to Roy: how waterproof is your custom sunblock?

I was going to start with beeswax & olive oil as a base for a thicker ZnO based cream that I could paste over my nose, cheeks, back of ears etc. Would you have an idea of the relative quantities to use, and also the water resistance?

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 45? I would have doubts if it stays on for longer than an hour in the water.

No age shield face 110. As long as I don't run my face it stays on for quite a while

Thanks for the information, maybe I will give it a try! It's not really much cheaper than Aloe Gator.
