Shark attack today in NZ

A local muriwai man was killed between Maori Bay and muriwai today. Mauled by 4 great white sharks, he was swimming between the bay towards muriwai beach (a 2 minute paddle on a board).

I was surfing in the exact spot between the bay and muriwai last night! Gives me the shits. I know there's sharks around as there's a local seal colony there, but hits pretty close to home. And I've only just started to surf!!

A fatal shark attack in NZ is very rare, only 11 recorded since records began in 1847.
