Wetsuit Designer/Seamstress

Postby LWA » Mon Dec 17, 2012 9:41 pm

Hello,

I am looking for someone to join a wetsuit design team. We need a seamstress that is able to sew/glue/tape the raw neoprene material together to build our designs. Does anyone have any contacts that I can get in touch with? Or are any of you out there on Surfing Waves able to do this type of work?

Much appreciated!

Please feel free to contact me via email.

More information needed, like what country? Everything is irrelevant without that little bit of information.

Thanks for the response.

We are currently located in Canada and London UK. We are just staring to set up the details of a shop and equipment, but once our team has a designer/seamstress we can further finalize these details.

Cheers,

LWA,
if you can't find the type of business or employee relationship you seek, you may be able to make a deal with an existing wetsuit sewing shop (so that you can get going). There are 3 or 4 in the US that complete the majority of the repairs and alterations in the US. These shops also make custom suits. One that I like is I've used this one in San Clemente, CA for repairs:

You can find more by searching the internet.

Thanks a lot billie_morini. You make a good point I will definitely take this into consideration and dig a little deeper into this.

Yet, if people are still reading this thread it would be great to work closely with someone to really optimize the design of the suit.

That could work as long as there is no survey
Put some samples around at cost to people you can trust for product review, a condition would be actual face to face contact, measuring and review with you.

I made rash guards for a decade and the single person you are looking for probably does not exist or they already have the 'Mine' label.

Billie is right, look for a contractor. One of the major neoprene suppliers I used was: Macro Intl. in Irvine CA (N.A. distributor for Sheiko Rubber) Call them and see of there is someone they would suggest. ...and you might want to buy a Matuse wetsuit to see what the upper end looks like.

Good luck - a crowded field.

Whoa, Jim! Buy a Matuse wetsuit? That's muy dinero!
Seriously, advice to go with contractor is good. It's how business gets done or, at least, started.

Actually Billie .. they have some 2011 inventory that is listed as 'Vintage' (clever labeling..) I recently bought a 2mm for US$250. You're right about the BIG$s, but if I was going to enter the scrum, I would want to know the highs and lows of a very crowded market.

I have heard good things about BOZ from Peru .. http://www.bozwetsuits.com Sometimes it is better to partner up with someone already sewing-n-gluing and carve up geography. ..not that I know these people, or whether they would be interested. ..just a thought. Cheers.

Thanks guys for the info.

I agree with the discussion in getting a contractor to build the first prototype, and we are most likely going to be moving in this direction.

If anyone has anymore contact info on wetsuit builders that would be able to build our prototype that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!
