Opinions on board

Postby georgekellop » Thu Sep 20, 2012 4:44 am

Hi,

I was seriously considering this board. Does anyone have any opinions on it?

Thanks,

Hi georgekellop, welcome to Surfing Waves!

Looks like a really nice board. Let us know how you get on with it.

Thanks surf patrol - will do. I'm trying to find out more about it now. My suspicion is that it's a foam core with veneer on top. I don't know what else it would be. Right now I've got an 8' Grain board. It's made out of cedar. It's a pretty sweet board, but this is the only board I've ever had, and I kinda want to try a foam board to get the sense of the differences between wood and foam. Plus, I'm still a beginner. I've learned some stuff, but I kinda feel that this 8' board (with it's weight and shape) makes it hard to catch waves on. I think you need a lot more momentum to pick up waves with the 8 footer. Seems like the only time I can really catch a wave is when I'm in the whitewater and have the pinnacle of force from the wave. Of course, it's probably due to my lack of experience as a surfer. But with a 9' 6" foam board, if I still can't catch waves anywhere but the white water, then at least I can narrow it down to my lack of skills! haha. Trial and error.

George, I'm not a fan of anything RonJon, don't believe the Australian foam bit. Heh, anyways I'm sure it's a good board, and yes your right it'll be veneer. I'm about two hours south from them and stop in, they're the only place that has the sunscreen I like ;)
They didn't show a price on the website, not all stores have exact same stuff as the website. Really just depends how much it's gonna cost, very pretty though

Hi Garrett,

Is Ron Jon stuff usually low quality? That's what concerned me. I want a longboard that has been shaped well, and I'll be able to surf for a long time as I progress from a beginner to intermediate surfer.

thanks

One of the things you can do besides asking here which is pretty good is type into google reviews ( insert name of product ). You will get everything from outright hate to full reviews , have look.
