GoPro Adhesive Mount

Postby -Griffin- » Tue Sep 18, 2012 7:42 pm

Hey, guys.

Finally got around to installing a GoPro surf Hero mount onto my surfboard this morning, thinking I wouldn't be surfing for the next 24 hours at least. Some people invited me to go out this afternoon & I don't have any extra boards. If I do go, I will not actually be using the GoPro in the mount, however, would water get inside, or anything do something to loosen the mount?

I'd think it should be fine as the glue stuff on the bottom of the pad would "harden" on the outside first, and slowly "move it's way in". Generally you want to let it try for at least 12 hours, however this is if you'll be having the weight of the GoPro on it.

Thoughts if it would be safe to surf with the mount? I'll have been drying for around 3 hours before it gets into the water.

Thanks in advance.

Well I've never had a GoPro but the traction pad of the board I've been using for 10 months is now starting to come off. I remember the day I applied the pad, I didn't wait 12 or 24 hours and jumped right in the water after only 2-3 hours. Today it's peeling. For something like a GoPro camera I'd definitely wait 24 hours.

It is prob best to wait a full 24hours before going out. If you also get a floaty back door for the back of your GoPro you should be able to find it, if it ever does come off in the water. The floaty back door is bright orange and floats. They are also fairly inexpensive compared to losing your camera.

about 2 months ago this guy drowned surfing "peñascal", his attached gopro hit him right on the temple, knocked him out and passed away, really good surfer, really a shame that happended to him. don't know of other stories like that but... you know, watch out.

It might be ok. If you notice your mount pealing take it off. Is easier that way. Always have a floaty back door too. Sucks when you lose it. I lose one, thankfully it was close to shore and I jumped off and was able to drive down and grab it in that general area. I do not have my attached by string to my board either, I don't want it banging and causing damage to it if it does come off. When it has in the past I simply see it bobbing in the water, grab it and pocket it then ride in
