Unless night surfing is your thing, any restaurant that's open for dinner is a good gig. I'm able to surf 7 days a week, whenever there's swell :D

Teacher, but a 'normal' teacher works full time, 5 days a week.

If you're a natural speaker of English you can pay £1000 or so for a teaching English as a foreign language course. The pay package usually includes free accomodation so while the salary is poor, you can't run a car or anything, it's enough to live, unless you're into drinking cocktails and buying designer label clothes etc. etc.

You start work at around 3 in the afternoon leaving you free to surf or whatever you want to do every morning.

The tough bit is finding a job within walking/ cycling distance of surf. I've been lucky.

Galiciabound, after your adventures in Bali and the fate of your board there, I think the concentration of surf time you get in your new job will give you amazing improvement.
Water yourself as often as possible

Ill also suggest paramedic. I work a 3 days on 2 days off, 2days on 3 days off schedule. So basically half the month im off, both on weekdays and weekends, eaves a lot of down time. I also work nights(at work now) so if theres a good swell i can sometimes get in a early ride, especially if i take my board to work. Some places will work 24 on 48 off, woeking an avg of 10 days a month, leaving even more free surf time. The pay isnt GREAT for the work involved but, i reallycant see myself doing anything else ;)

Oh. Another option(and my plan currently) is to get into remote site paramedic work, 5 weeks on, 5 weeks off is the average schedule. So basically youd have over a moth off to do nothing except have fun :)

I'm a flight operations controller which is great as my shifts are 5days on, 4days off, 4days on, 5days off. Which also gives me 2 weekends off a month, downside is I live a good 3 hour drive from North devon where I normally surf, but I might start to venture into Wales.

Off topic, but I imagine if you are a paramedic you need to go surfing just to deal with it - all the people in emergency services impress me (I sit in an office and a crisis is when 2 people wnat their report at the same time or the coffee machine has stopped working and I need to go down to the lobby coffee shop)

Yeah, it does help. When im on the water, im foused on the next ride, the next rush, the serenity of being on the water, nothing else matters, that, as we all know is what its all about.

But in all honesty, only about 1% of the calls i run REALLY get to me, to the poit ive got to do somethingto get my mind off it. Most ofthe time, well xxxxx just happens. I know the sounds EXTREMELY jaded and closed off, but in this field you almos have to be. If i let every bad call get to me, id be 6 feet under now, or a total alcoholic.

I do like you comparison to the files though, haha. To me, A job like that, stuck in an office pushing papers would be total hell, and id DEFINTELY need to surf to get away from it.

I'm a RMN (mental health nurse), shifts 3 x 12hr week and a 4 x 12hr week once a month, nights on rotation. If you work as a community RMN it's usually 9-5 but you could maybe try and get your clients into surfing too as a therapeutic activity and meet them at the beach?

Bank or office jobs can be good. You have weekends and you'll have some time to have vacations too.

Unless you have a real passion for it, I would not reccommend becoming a lawyer. You need to work long hours and it is hard to take the time off (paid by the hour). Although, I'm told that time really opens up later on in the career. Law school is very expensive as well and starting salaries are not what many people expect.

I can surf once a week right now on Saturday mornings for a few hours. I go every week regardless of how the waves are.

I would imagine that any job that you can do at night time, or at your own schedule would be perfect for surfing.

With that said, any job that gives you the flexibility to choose your hours would be perfect (self employment of most natures, contract work, web design), and the obvious night time trades like bar work, waitering, 24h security, DJing would all fit into the ideal category

You can start working in the cleaning domain. You can offer carpet cleaning and you will definitely have a lot of clients. You should give it a shot.

Government jobs depending on the job can help as the ones I looked at offered quite a few holidays in addition to the vacation time. Right now looking at banks and insurance agencies for fraud investigation or white collar crime in that vein. I have been noticing that most banks and insurance agencies do offer some time off, your holidays and vacation time. Plus insurance agencies closed on weekend which can help

I have been a web designer/software developer for 3 years. You have all day to surf and all night to code eat sleep party and the freedom to move with the waves anytime anywhere. If you run out of money you end up stuck at least somewhere with surf.
