Hey Liquid Peace,
are your thinly guised advertisements approved by Surfing Waves management?

I would say either Fiji or the Maldives would be good surf travel spot during the month of October!

I would just like to ask why Philippine beaches aren't included. Not being biased but I always thought we have the best water sports spot ever. Gnarly. :|

I'm actually surprised why the resorts in Philippines and also in Asia are not included considering that we have Boracay Island, which is one of the top resorts in Asia that have surfing activities, and also Siargao Island which is the surfer's paradise in Asia. Well I guess they have their own reasons for making up those lists.

Other good beaches in Asia for surfers:
1. Nai Harn Beach, Thailand
2. Kuta Beach - Bali, Indonesia
3. Lombok Island, Indonesia
4. Kata Noi Beach, Thailand

Well these are just a few of the best destinations in Asia for surfers.

As a dutchman i find it not very nice that the Netherlands isn't included but... at some point the waves aren't very good in the Netherlands so i don't care
but i find it very rare that places like hossegor and Biarritz aren't included because they really freak out in october

Zand, I too am surprised that the Netherlands isn't on there, with all those awesome swells you get ;).

I've never been (still saving) but Costa Rica in October is meant to be sweet. I've seen an awesome surf camp there, but you'd have to sell your Gran to pay for it.

To point out the five best surfing destinations for October is a question of taste, isn't it? I mean do you want a hot weather or moderate one, easy waves or tubes, wind all day or do you prefer to surf at specific daytimes, surrounding... there is a lot of people can argue about if it comes to that. So probably we could make a whole new thread about the five best vacation destinations in October... I personally favour Peniche in Portugal, about 100 km north of Lisboa. I stayed there with some friends in a group accomodation which we booked at a web platform, and we had a great time there. Around Peniche are various spots to surf at, so you can find good conditions every day. There are also tubes to ride on

I also love the Netherlands for surfing (nearer to home  ). Last time I stayed at Egmond aan Zee, quite a small city but for beginners and surfers who just want to have some easy-going waves it's cool.

And I do miss UK on the list! What - for example - about Cornwell? It's really a great place to surf!

Ok, how about narrowing it down a bit. What would be the top 5 October destinations for:
- warm water (no wetsuits req'd)
- fun / consistent surf - 3-5 ft - beach break or fun point break / good for longboards
- surrounded by natural areas with other things to do (fish, hike, bike, tour, etc.)
- easy to find condo type accommodations
- easy access from west coast of US/Canada
- most breaks accessible without hiring boats

Hey Flo,

from Canada I would suggest you to come to DR!!!!! Cabarete is the spot! We have great swells from Aug-Nov. (hurricane season), this years is already forecasted as a good one! We have warm water (never wet suit), cheep flights from Canada (Toronto some times 315US Westjet) and very quick to arrive, cheep accomodation (I am managing the one and only Hostel in Cabarete "LagunaPark") check out www.lagunahostelcabarete.com for more infos about accomodation and surf conditions in DR/Cabarete! Apart from all the surfing and kite boarding Cabarete is full with young fun people and has a big time party life all along the beach site! If you feel like coming down for OKT then contact me, I'll be happy for some new surf buddys! Saludos from CocoNut Island Estrellita

Hi everyone,

Any comments on my last post ?
I was convinced I was going to Costa Rica in the first 2 wks in October but now I am having second thoughts. Was specifically thinking Nosara, Santa Teresa type areas. Today I read a site that says October is the worst month to surf at Nosara due to rain and inconsistent wind and swells. Lots of posts here say it is a great month to go. I am confused.

I go to Oahu twice a year and love surfing 3-5 ft waves at places like Waikiki, Puaena Point, Alii Beach Park, Chun's. Looking for similar type waves that are as consistent as possible. We always go in October because it's not too busy and it has the best chance of hitting dropping south swells and rising north swells. It seems like one or the other always has something to offer.

YO Flo, I don't know about the Americas CR etc but if you have a history of knowing Oahu then that is a strong thought to do that again.
The Indonesian season is almost finished in October ( that is most of the hordes go home) so the there is a shoulder season and places like Lombok and the west Coast of Bali still hold surf that is in the category you describe!
Major trek so not sure if that qualifies in your mind as easy access.
