db94, you' re jumping around like a Rio Negra frog on a barbeque you ask for advice, it is suggested you go a little longer and thicker in the board to give you the paddle power, and as you have found by going shorter and lighter at this stage in your learning you get nothing but frustration. Go a little bigger all round get a good basic board and master all the basic manoeuvres.
Skill up before you go down.
Boards of all sizes can do airs, get barrelled and anything else but only after their rider can do it first.
You said it yourself the board is too thin and too small, you've looked at fish etc in your 20 + posts since 2009, you know how your surfing is progressing you said the answer, now go do it!
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷
