Previously the sand was dumped close to the breakzone with the intention of restocking sand lost to storms, but little care was taken in location of the sand with regard to surfable waves. This year, however, the council has approved the formation of a sand 'slug' to act as a deepwater wave-focussing ridge.
This is not an artificial reef, and is in deep water (8m) that will not break in typical conditions, so it will purely affect the refraction of passing waves as they approach the beach.
Fingers crossed it turns out as the theory indicates!
