First board

Postby Nerdsurfer26 » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:28 pm

Hey guys

Really in need of some help!

I've been surfing for a while like a year on softboards that I've hired and my 18th birthdays coming up so I'm starting to look for my first surfboard.

I've checked out funboards which look pretty good but also some fishes, because a surf shop recommended it.

I'm 5ft 1 ish and weigh about 7 stone. I get so surf as much as I can in school holidays and every weekend at Beadnell bay in northumberland.

Any advise on a board would be appreciated, I'm looking to spend about £300 ish on the board.

I'd love nothign better than to support my local shaper and get a custom made board but its a bit too steep in the price range, atleast until I'm earning.

Help please!

How you getting on with the softboard? Anything less than 8ft is going to be a real challenge, and if you are going 8ft, you might as well go 9ft.
Your goal shouldn't be to get on a small board as soon as possible, it should be to surf and have as much fun as possible.

Hi Nerdsurfer26, welcome to Surfing Waves!

There's plenty of advice on these forums about beginner boards. Generally, the bigger the better. Don't go for a fish, pick a longer minimal or a longboard.
Good news - £300 will get you a great board.
