Surfing in Recife, Brazil? Sharks?

Postby NorwayJessica » Wed May 16, 2012 7:53 pm

Alohaaa!

I am going to Recife now in July, heard that they forbid surfing there because of the sharks... I am going to Porto das Galinhas, heard it's allowed there, but how good are the waves with all the reefs around?

An answer is very much appreciated !

I read in a UK surf magazine (surfer's path maybe?) several years back that they built a bit port (or something) there and all the work they did altered the long shore drift direction. This apparently ended up with lots of tiger sharks drifting directly into the lineups of some surf spots in the area, and several people were attacked in a short space of time.

I don't know anything about the breaks around there though.

There are waves, the Marroquim surf school is based there so there must be something rideable. - http://www.marroquimsurf.com.br
