Wetsuits?

Postby surferdude_scarborough » Tue Dec 30, 2003 9:11 pm

Am i insane to go out in a shorite wetsuit in October? I tried it on my birthday (27th) this year with one of my mates. People keep telling us we were nuts but neither of us felt hugely cold and most of the people we talked to dont know a great deal about surfing?[/code]

You need a good winter wetsuit

No

(as long as you are not surfing on the east coast of England ;D )

Get a good winter suit - be prepared to spend some money - if you are serious about surfing all the time, especially in winter - it's worth paying out decent money.

You wussies!

Postby TOP_POT » Sun Jan 11, 2004 12:57 pm

SURFING IS EXTREME U MANBY PAMBY PUSSY WUSSIES!

I say surf in ur nud if u can hack it!

Shorties arent that bad for the UK, U just need a flask of hot drink, a wind proof area (car/breaker/toilets), some food and you can surf till ur numb!

BE EXTREME, LIVE EXTREME!

in British winters, without a proper wetsuit, going in the water, it would be so cold you couldn't stay in for long, cos you would be shivering and turning blue, therefore unable to surf properly anyway, so i don't think it's the case of being a 'manby panby pussy wussy' more of a case of wanting to stay in the surf more than half an hour.

i did one summer, and it wasn't a very hot day either, pretty cloudy and chilly but i managed to surf and body board for a good 2 hours :) rather proud of that... it wasn't too bad.

i tried it once, it was cold n windy (offshore) n rainy. I Stayed in about half an hour then came out. mainly because the mate i was with was too cold, i was quite happy to stay in until i went blue.

Two wetsuits?

Postby surferdude_scarborough » Thu Jan 15, 2004 7:57 pm

Hey i just had a thought. What would happen if you wore two wetsuits over each other, for example a 3/2 mm shortie underneath a 3/2 mm fullsuit? would it act in a similar way to a suit of their combine thickness, or would you create something where you could not move and there was no benifits warmth wise?

when i went on a surf trip with the school, there was one girl who just got so cold (and this was summer) she wore 2 wetsuits. it did inhibit her movement though :S. youre better off just wearing 1 winter wetsuit, as long as you're a type of person that doesn't feel the cold that badly.

ahh that sucks. when schools go on ferries anywhere too, they're not allowed to let pupils onto any of the open decks. we were all like puking up before, and desperately wanted some fresh air and we weren't allowed. :(

yeah but that's the story of society. they think making new rules will help make things better, but they never do because rules were made to be broken :S
