Careers

If your still in school, what do you want to do when your older, like as a job/career. I guess we'd all like to be pro surfers, but let's keep it realistic. I mean lots of you might have sponsors and stuff, but otehrwise, yeah.

If you already havea career, what is it? Do you like it? Is the pay good, etc. etc.

Me... I want to be a pilot. Start off in the air force, then move up to commercial airlines like QANTAS and co. BEst thing about that, is that the air force pays you to learn, pretty cool.

At the moment im doin a BSc (honours) in Ecology, not sure where to go afterwards, at the moment prbably an MSc in marine mammal biology then a PhD, or a conservation genetics stylee PhD or maybe do a law degree. Hmmm so much choice. Either way i'm going to be seriously in debt and seen as i want to work in a research/conservation field i will never make much money

I've been looking at possible engineering careers. One of my favorites is an oceanic engineer, and doing things like designing artificial reefs lol, or more realistically, working on deep-sea exploring. Another,is alternative fuel engineering. theirs gonna be good money in that. Im still thinking about the specific engineering field, but im definitly going into engineering.

And to Libby-
it depends on what company you're working for and what your researching, but theres good moeny in research if you go that way.

Yeh true but the kind of research i would be interested in is cetacean ecology or some form of evolutionary study type research or similar. There isnt much money in it and jobs are scarce and fiercly competitive. Almost like saying you want to be a pro surfer in some ways, nice dream but you need to have a back up just in case...

I'm in my 3rd year of medical school. I'll be a doctor in one year; I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Libby, don't worry about the debt, follow your dreams.

another best thing bout a pilot is that I only work like 3 or 4 times a week, so I can live at Sydney or somwhere with lots of surf. Then, get a taxi or whartever to the airport or drive or whatever, and fly the plane, surf some oevrseas countries, and hopefully get money and retire in HAwaii... sweet.

then I can say Aloha with no hesitation. excellent

A guide would be fun until you get those white kids on your boat who only know how to fly video game planes and eat dots.

And if they're parents are like that too...

I'd jump off.

Yeah, thats why I always have a bottle of crown on my boat, so if things get annoying i can just start drinking! or if the fishing sucks that day.

I'm an IT engineer, but also been in customer services and been a holiday rep a few times aswell which was awesome! :D I get bored easily though and to be honest, dont really want a career, i'd cry if i thought i was going to be in the same job for more than a year :p
