making a wooden board

Postby OcaToro » Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:50 pm

evening all, quite interested in the longer term to make a chambered wooden board. either a longboard, or something along the lines of the Fourth "chilli bean".

anyone done it before and have any wisdom before i end up in way over my head?

with regards shaping, does it make all that much difference? i seen a lot of vids on youtube of people making alaia style boards that look no more than a dinner tray some of them. or is it not so important just with the small ones but more so with anything big.....

anyway enough of my :blah:

cheers for any help or advise :)

Cheers Jaffa and Oca, Oca for the board shape you are after chambering or the fishbone method would be best.Chambering isn't what I do it's a board shaped from a block which is then hollowed or drilled out, fishbone is a plank on frame method suitable for tapered profile boards. I don't use either. Lots of help is available at Tree to sea's forum.

Sorry Roy even if I misrepresented your building technique, I was sure your advice would be sage! :D
Oh and as I said in the PM I'm sad to hear of Earle's passing.

Yes what a great guy, apparently he was diabetic.

Of course shortboard fishes etc can be done using my parallel profile method, plenty have been made and liked but they won't be identical to tapered profile boards.
