Hi May, New Zealand has miles and miles of surfable coast in fact really four coasts on two Islands, so to which Island are you headed? North or South? The known spots are great. :D

Hi again May, you've go New Zealand's surf city of Raglan a series of great left hand points and a beach and some surf school there that's on the west coast, there are other west coast beaches all the way down to New Plymouth and Taranaki areas, west coast can be heavy in that it gets the swell that pass under Australia and hit there, you can head north out of Auckland to believe it or not Northland and again on the west coast there are a group of quality lefthanders.
The east coast has beach breaks and quality rivermouth bars, quality breaks all around, some of the breaks are inhabited by fierce local hobbits with localism issues but respect will get you by.
But do not be fooled, some of the New Zealand beaches are treacherous with heavy rips and you need to have a together act to surf them.
What is your competence level?
There is also a very good New Zealand Surf Guide book available.
Visit and appreciate Maori Culture centres, hot spring etc and don't stamp your foot too hard, the whole area is a geothermal volcanic earthquake zone

NZed is a great place in so many ways, do a visit to the South Island too. :D

BTW post a picture of this beautiful new board after the advice what did you end up getting and how is your surfing progressing?
