Water Temp in Fuerteventura???

Going there in 2 weeks time anybody been in Jan, whats the temp like, could I get away with boardies and a thermal rash vest or would I need a full wetsuit?

its quite cool, this time of the year... you will need a 3/2 full suit... usually the water temperatures are around 16° - 18° in january..
it also depends a bit on the spot, the wind and the tide... but it should be around that...

if you happen to have a 3/4, might think about taking it along, just to be safe...
some ppl get along better with cool water than others...

oh, and take some beanie/wool cap with you when getting out of the water... the winds can get pretty strong and with all wet hair you catch a cold quite quick...

Ahh cool. Yes Up north we are in Corralejo. We are going to use a school for 3 or 4 days and get some tuition and know how on the local beaches, then maybe do 2 days by ourselves.

Any recommendations on a school per chance?

allright.. so its north shore you will be heading for the surf...

yeah, if any, go with quiksilver surfschool. they are by far the best on the island (you can check reviews on the net).. they have very good teachers (technically as personality wise), propper materials and know their way round.. they might be a bit more expensive than others, but are well worth it.. its things like starting their classes an hour earlier than all others which gives you more uncrowded times at the breaks, splitting the groups along their abilities and the current conditions, very good knowledge of the breaks and the conditions that make em work etc etc...

seen bad things going on in other surfschools, so i hope you trust me on that one.

if you go with them, just the next crossing up their office take a right and after 30m theres a bakery on the left.. you get all sorts off food there which is just awesome.. and they have freshly made sandwiches the size of half a baguette for 1.50€.. you can live on those... perfect to take with you to the break..

for the free time you might want to check:
Boardriders cafe & Avenida for food. Especially Avenida, its spanish food and you get huuuuuuuuuuuuuge meals for redicoulus cheap.. ask the surf teachers for the way since its off the main street.. generally, foodwise keep off the main street, its all for tourists.. only 123secreto has superb musli, perfect for after surf..
for drinks you should go to the banana bar (small roof top bar, cool music and awesome mojitos and they project surf movies onto the adjacent wall, by the marina), kiwi bar (by the party complex, the only halfway decent bar there), buona onda (its where all the local surfers go, also by the marina), rock island bar (small bar just off the main road, they have a very entertaining accoustic gitarrist playing there, i think monday, wednesday and friday), waikiki (down at the main beach, all hell breaks loose here when everything else closes)

you should take something windbreaker-ish with you.. it can get chilly in the morning and there is allways wind..

you will need a car, if you want to get to the surf spots.. you can get rentals very cheap all over croallejo.. compare, since some offer free milage..
theres only a dirt track going along the north shore and usually, the rentals "forbid" to go offroad with the cars.. but its more like: if you break down up there, you will have to pay by yourself.. so be decent on the gas and mind the bigger rocks, and you can get there around with a small and cheap car too..

if the swell is good, you might want to rent boards and a car from the beginning and go surf in the off times by yourselfs.. the school "only" does one session a day..
but that depends on other things like your surf lvl etc too..

Fantastic mate, had a really good time. We went with wave rider surf school and Nathan the instructor was great. He spent his whole time in the water with us, spent longer on the beach than any other surf school and I learn't stacks. I can now catch greenies and turn, where as before I couldn't do much at all.

Weather was a bit random but in a wetsuit all day so made no difference. Had a good time all in all.

Errrrrr I don't know mate, just got in a transporter, he drove us to a beach with sand, we ran in the water and got wet for 4 hours then went home! No idea about names....
