Will definitely check out the Youtue stuff, thanks! The package I am looking at is a four day package with lessons everyda, board rental, leash, accomodations, two meals daily and airport transfers to and from. I think the total is $579.00. Seems like a great deal.

Well, I did it. Three days of lessons including some stand up paddle. I did lessons in Deerfield Beach, Florida with Kali Moreno. I had an amazing time and Kali was a great teacher. I did enjoy surfing over the stand up paddle and suprisingly took to the surfing a little better. I was able to pop up and ride on the first go round, which was followed by a good bit of falling. Conditions were very nice for a beginner, with waves I would guess around knee high. One day had conditions that were somewhat larger for the area and brought out several riders which made for a unique experience. One thing I realized quickly was that once you are out in the surf and are laying on the board every wave is an overhead wave :) I used a 9 ft, 10 ft and 11.6 soft top board and was most comfortable with the 10 ft and found my most success with it. I am back in Kentucky jonsing like a mad man at how quickly I can get back out have another go round.

May the force be with you thank heavens you haven't gone over to the dark side of the SUP death invaders of the surf planet!.
Get to the surf as often as your geography allows and do stuff like swimming a lot or paddling a surfboard lying down on some sort of body of water in Kentucky. If you can do that you won't go backwards as much between real sessions.
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷
