Is this a decent board? Yeakel

Postby SoCalSurfing » Wed Jan 18, 2012 7:48 pm

Hi,

Is this a decent board? It is about 9ft. Got it a long time ago :woot:

Can't seem to find anything online except this: http://stokednboard.surfingheritage.org/pdf/Yeakel_Ca.pdf

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

Looks OK under the grime, or the nose area does anyway, check along the rails and at the tail to see if it needs repair after cleaning off all that wax and start waxing again.

Looks like a good basic design and it's not a Chinese special.

that's a neat board to have. The shaper was Dugan Yeakel. He passed away in 2009, so there will not be more boards made by his hands. Dugan also hand-crafted large wooden boards. He grew up around Manhattan Beach, California, and was deeply involved in surfing.

Nice!
Anyone know what it is worth? Is it a board that will go up in value years from now or just cool to have? Thanks!

I've been contacted by Pete Noble with an update about this board.

That board was made by David Yeakel of Capistrano Beach no deceased, not Dugan Yeakel.
Dave was taught shaping by Dale Velzy

I was born and raised in Capo Bch and my life was in a way Shaped by the Yeakel family. I'm best friends w/ Dave Yeakel's Son Mathew. We would run around and bug Dave while he shaped custom boards for customers in his driveway across the street from our school bus stop. David Yeakel was a United States Marine and a well respected old school Long Boarder and Shaper. Dave passed a few years ago but his influence on the sport is still very much alive. I recently visited the Yeakel home and Dave's Shaping Room is still there just as I always remembered it. God Bless David Yeakel!

Wow! Great info there Torpedo82 and welcome to the forum
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
