Beach Camping in New Zealand

Postby Roy Stewart » Thu Apr 28, 2005 4:03 am

Not too many words to say, but here's a link to some pictures of 'Sandmine' . . a free camping spot at Otamarakau in The Bay of Plenty which is hardly ever surfed even though it sometimes has good banks. There's no worries about crowds here the beach is about 60 kms long! If anyone would like details of how to find the place then let me know. There's water there but bring your own dunny. We lived here for three months a couple of years back, and built a 10'4" redwood longboard under an awning while we were at it. It's a great place for training (running in the soft sand!). These pictures are from a few weeks ago.

Man, that looked awesome. Not much of a wave, but camping on a beach, next to a break is great. Especially if you got a homemade jacuzzi! Never seen that before.

As for myself, I have camped in one spot for 40 days. Absolutely loved it. Setting up a camp. Time and money doesn't matter. Just food, surf and chill.

Way to go, man.
