Hi May surfing is relatively new in China, the coastal island of Hainan is the hot destination or you could try Taiwan, I'm headed to Taiwan this coming year some problems there though if a typhoon gets close to the coast the police close down the beaches and impose heavy fines for wrong doers.

Some surf in Hong Kong too but not quite worthy of the name.
The mainland has even less understanding new horizon and not much local knowledge.
There have been articles written do a google search! :D

God I would not go within a mile of that water. That country is an environmental disaster I've heard.

Don't go by the I have heards, it's one of the best ways to keep you from going to certain spots!
I would however imagine any beaches near an industrial city either in ROC or mainland would be chancy, then again all the rivers that get to the sea in say Bali are polluted, Malibu gets polluted by movie stars septic tank over flows when it rains, where any drain meets the sea is a challenge, where I'm going is pristine for Asia.

I would avoid Japan of course at the moment on the North east coast near Fukajima, and Korea might be a little too exciting if north and south get stuck in
New Zealand has earthquakes and Orcas fighting sharks  New Guinea has the testicle crunching fish   , California the red triangle of great whites, Australia great white, tiger sharks bull sharks hammer heads and a few other species + poisonous snakes on the way to the beach and crocodiles.
The South Africa lions rhino and then Great Whites that water is dangerous stuff.

I've paid my deposit and my travel insurance and at the end of this month I pay my air tickets.

I have a slight froth in regard to the trip and let's just hope the world stays on an even keel this year

No I have a high level crowd avoidance technique, except during Aussie school holidays at my coastal home and all the families come up from Victoria. Then the technique FAILS.
Actually it's great to encourage the kids at a really nice break but the parents are out there too and are clueless, requires a lot of tact explaining positioning in the line up and about dropping in athen add a layer of stupid SUP beginners ( usually holidaying business men) who actually have to behold to go to quieter parts of the beach as safety for the children :x

So Taiwan is looking good. :D
