Hi guys - beginner wetsuit question

Postby hooty_boy » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:19 am

Hi all, I'm looking into getting my surfing gear at the end of next week and I'd apprechiate some advice on some gear I've been looking into.

I'm looking for a good winter wetsuit as I'd rather not wait until Summer to start surfing y'know.

I've seen this and it looks to be ok (admittedly I don't know what I'm looking for but hey)

Would that be ok for a beginner?

That's a good wetsuit. Just make sure the fit is good, and that a 4/3 will be warm enough for the waters you'll be surfing in. Where will you be surfing this winter?

I have a billabong, very warm and comfy. I especially like the reinforced knees, which seem to take a fair amount of punishment. My old Gul suit wore away at the knees really quickly (within 6 months). I opted for the chest zip version which is great unless you manage to trap both arms in the sleeves when pulling it off, then its kind of like a straight jacket :D .

Nice one, it is a good suit- I have one albeit the 5/4/3 version.

4/3 isn't very thick for the height of winter so you might consider investing in a thermal rashie to go underneath, they help a lot!

If you are surfing in the UK winter then you will need gloves + boots + hood as well. :D Don't mean to scare you off but they are necessary at this time of year.
