Hula Deck or Clear Grip Tape ??

Postby poolman10 » Tue Nov 15, 2011 2:32 am

Hey everyone.
I am new here, and just was wondering if anyone has tried Hula Deck or any of the clear grip taps on the market?? I just bought a new 9'2" Meyerhoffer and was thinking of putting some cool graphics on it, However wax would cover that, or at very least distort it, I have been looking at the wax alternatives like Hula Deck and clear grip tape, But I have talked to a lot of people at the 2 surf shops I use, and no one has tried it, So I am thinking the clear grip tape because it can be removed, But would use Hula Deck if I got a lot of positive feedback about it... Thank-You for any insight...... :D :D :D

I've not seen Hula Deck before, I'd be interested in hearing if it's any good. There are some clear traction pads out there, which would perform just like regular traction pads.

Hula Deck is a roll-on, So pretty much permanent, The clear deck tape is a very thin self adhesive layer, and add almost no weight to the board, and you can cover as much as the board as you like, However I read 1 that's right only 1 review I could find, and he said it worked great, but if you were wearing a wetsuit you slide all over the board, (that would be no good)So hopefully some has tried one of these and will respond, Thank-You for any input.... :D

Not trying to answer my own question, But just found an old forum about Hula Deck, and it says, Works Great, but not recommended for bare chests, Well here in Florida I surf alot without a rash guard, So that is not sounding good... :D :D :D

I've found a review (maybe the same one you saw) that said it worked well. I'd like to see it.
When you talk about clear grip tape, I have skateboard grip tape in mind - not good for a wetsuit

It's is different than clear grip for skateboards, So they say, Here is a link that tells about it, http://www.amsystem.us/surfboard_traction.html, Well it looks like it may have to wait till after Christmas, Before I can get the graphics, and get a non slip surface on it, Just going to drive me crazy not using the board for that long, But I have 3 others, So I should make it, And it will give me a little more time to investigate...Thank-You for all the input...
PS. Just got my new full wetsuit in the mail today, And it's 85 degrees outside, I am sure it will feel good in February

Well,
I got XM Grip Tape for my Meyerhoffer, and it works great, Put 8 -1' wide by 16" long on the 9'2" board, there is about a 2" gap in between the pieces, when it is wet the traction is great, Went with no rash guard last week, no irritation at all, I can see my graphics through the clear tape, The best 80 buck I have spent in a long time.. :)
