shortboard buying help

I am 5'8, weigh approximately 130lbs (60kg) and would class myself as an intermediate surfer. iv been riding a 6'6 funboard for the past 3 years and wish to get a performance shortboard for good waves in the 3-6ft range in the newquay, cornwall area. I surf most days when there is riadeable waves. What dimensions would you recomend?
would a board with these dimensions work well for me? 6’ 0” 18 5/16” 2 1/4”.

If you are starting to get serious take yourself to local shapers, and discuss what you want to do.If you like something go with the it either from their stock range or get your first custom ( if you have the cash). Getting your first custom is such a buzz especially when it rips for you

The dimensions you listed would depend not only on your height and weight, but on your ability as well. I would try to get a hold of a used board close to those dimensions. You then could give it a try before you buy. Maybe hit up your local surf shop and check out the used rack and see if you can demo a board, or buy an old beater to help you get your dimensions dialed in. Positive:
The T-RX custom board shaped by John Carper is one of his newest models. Its single concave is deepest right under where your feet would be placed, providing a “spring effect.” The polyester and polyurethane material used to construct these boards is still the leading product. All around this board is gnarly.

Negative:
This board may not be prime for under waist high surf. Personally I have used it, but without a wave, there is nothing for the board to do. It is just a short ride, and soon enough you’re sinking. Also, buying a new set of skegs would complement the board.
