Mal to shorter board.

Looking to progress from a mal to a second hand shorter board, id like to be able to get a board i can duck dive with so i can actually get out more to the bigger waves, the mal is cool but my aim is too surf short and I dont see why not now, my mal is 7ft i pop up everytime fine, turn and go across the green and bail out when the white water comes as you do, I cant do any sharp turns up and down the wave just cut across it. I was quite interested in the 7s superfish because it looks responsive, has buoyancy and looks like fun I know its a pop out but a JP hybrid is too expensive for me so cant really support local shaper when i dont have much money. A friend of mine has a 6'6 byrne mullet Im quite interested in but its epoxy and im not too sure on epoxy boards and not sure if it would be able to duckdive. Could you guys help me out and recommend some boards like the 7s superfish or whatever. Just interested to see what people have to say. Oh im just under 6ft and about 70kgs.

Forget about the superfish. They're good boards, but more like a short longboard than a proper shortboard. A bugger to duckdive too.

The 6'6 mullet would be okay as a progression board - dont worry about it being epoxy. There are disadvantages to epoxy boards, but nothing you need to worry about yet. But again... not really a shortboard.

I think you'd be better hanging in there until a big shortboard came along - something around the 6" 8- 6"10 mark.
