Resin8?

hey guys can anyone give me feedback on Resin8's ive been thinking about getting one???
Ive been surfing a 6.3 anacapa glider i want to get similar performance/ paddle from an epoxy if anyone has suggestions/ experiences to share please do

my mate has a 6'2" resin8 fish board. He loves it, a tough board as well. Only problem he has with it, probably cause it's a fish is that if the water is in the slightest bit choppy he struggles to catch a wave. He needs almost glassy conditions, but yeah a fast board and when the conditions are right he can get plenty of performance out of it too!

i heard that they are good boards but for epoxy they aren't strong. they are just like normal boards strength wise. i've never surfed one so shouldn't know how they perform but they must be pretty good because the name they hold (although this doesn't always mean that the brand is best because its well known).

i think if i wanted an epoxy i would go for a surftech because i know that they have the best strength technology at the moment.

don't rate them myself.
the early ones were the best as they had a layer of carbon fibre in them but it'd be hard to find one of those in good condition,
now they are mass produced sandwich boards made cheaply in china, don't get me wrong though, the performance of them is very good but the newer ones lack in build quality. plus they suck water pretty bad if you ding one badly and they take quite a while to dry out.
they were really big where i come from but the last few batches have been really bad, one guy snapped 3 new boards in afew weeks, the surf shops now stopping selling them, and he was a main dealer too!!!

Hi Allyoz,We need to answer the questions properly and clarify some of the comments above .I am owner of FILF Surf Co in Brighton and one of the largest suppliers of resin8 boards in europe and have been working with R8 SINCE DAY 1 . We have only ever had a couple of Resin8 boards snapped in 6 years of selling them and that was during research and development period right at the beginning when they were testing different blanks and resins to get there product perfect and all the boards with issues were kindly replaced,this is obviously the time when this guy had a problem,either that or he needs to learn a thing or two;since then we have never had one bad bit of feedback.
Resin8 Surfboards have gone through years of testing different materials and have spent a lot of time and money perfecting their product, yes carbon was used for a while but was found to be too stiff ,the boards now are better and stronger than ever and certainly not mass produced moulded boards,they go through many stages of hand finishing from skilled craftsmen,this is a high tech product and nothing is left to chance.
The new Tokoro and Sam Egan Models are sick, check them out you will be blown away!!These boards are finished to the same standard if not better than any custom PU board.They have a big range of shapes to suit most surfers and are even working on custom orders.
If you want to argue this comment i suggest you ask the likes of Joss Ash,Johnny Fryer,Tom Lowe, loads of hardcore Hawaiians and now Mick Fanning who love the strenghth,performance and feel of the boards.They ride them because they want to.
I myself have a few Resin8 Boards,one of which i have had for over 3 years and have taken it on many trips and its still as light and still goes as good as the day i got it,its 1 of my magic boards and will never get rid of it.
As far as strength goes,they are stronger than any other Performance epoxy boards on the market today and are far better quality than other larger Brands.

xoodoovafilf you need to sort out your prices for them resin8's! Your the most expensive, especially for the Sam Egan 08 modules. Most places sell them for no more than £399 some even less! I must admit i have a 6'2" Sam Egan and it rides like a dream, not stiff at all I can feel the flex being stored into a turn and then releasing. There a lot stronger than a PU but they can still dig! I would also say the float on them is almost the same as a PU maybe a little bit more. Overall a great shape/board, worth the money as it will last longer than a PU if looked after. I can't wait to get my hands on a Torkoro!

You are right mate we need to review our prices a bit,glad you like your 6'2"Sam Egan, all that you say is spot on, great boards,go for the 6'3"Tokoro its got a good bit of volume.

Have to disagree with xoodoovafilf, sorry mate but all Ive ever heard about resin8 is bad news, not only are they expensive boards but they use cheap materials & they go terribly in choppy conditions & even slight chop. I have ridden a few & i just didn't like them, sure they look good but you can do way better for a cheaper price & with better quality materials. Ive seen a few broken ones in my time also. I know theres a history of dodginess with Resin8 too. Thumbs down from me !!

I seriously don't understand these people having a go at Resin8 boards, I agree they're brilliant. Oh and if you have problems surfing it in messy conditions there must be something wrong with the way you surf! I learnt to surf on a 6'6" PU board a couple of years ago, my brother rides a 6'0 Resing8 Sam Egan swallow tail (bought from FILF). He let me have a go i was amazed at how much float it had for such a small board, its so fast and so loose, needless to say i quite liked the epoxy board.

I had a look around at other epoxy boards trawled through most of the surf shops in cornwall etc, finally settled on wanting something very similar to my brothers board, managed to pick up a brand new 6'2 Salomon S-core on ebay with brand new curve boardbag, leesh and future fins for £250!!!!

I have tried both boards one after the other (swapping with bro) and can hardly tell the difference, the only thing i can feel is that the salomon has slightly more float, which you'd expect with how much the salomon boards retail at!

Resin8 boards are awesome, another mate of mine has just bought one after trying my S-core. Oh and even after a few dings my bros board is still performing brilliantly after 3 years of a beach break obsession he has!

I picked up a Tokoro 6'0"1/2 round tail about 1.5-2 years ago, and it's been one of my magic boards. From Hawaii, I've ridden it in 1.5ft Chun's reef and all the way up to solid 5ft Lani's (10ft faces); it's worked well in all conditions, even strong side/off shores, but it does feel best in glassy conditions. The first week I had it, i dropped it from waist-height while in the shower after a sesh, and only received scratches on the nose. The deck has a few pressure dings from my knees, but the bottom truly doesn't have any pressures at all. As soon as I rode it, I wanted every Tokoro in Resin8's lineup, and I finally was able to pick up a 6'8" Tokoro and a 7'2" Tokoro. We'll see how they go this winter!

Not having a go at all, just stating facts mate....I'm back here because of more complaints about certain bad Resin8 batches of boards...beware & spend your money on a better product, most of them do go well though, I don't buy this whole phony "ours are better performing theory" a well seasoned surfer knows this is just hype anyway, buy quality & strength for the same, if not less money!
