Trestles under threat from proposed TCA toll road

Hey,
the Orange County Transit Corridor Agency (TCA, a state agency) wants to build a toll road whereby the road will go through the middle of the San Onofre State Beach Park and have many bridge footings in the stream that feeds sediment to Trestles. We beat them in 2008, but they are back. Recently, the TCA said the road construction would provide more than 13,000 construction jobs to Orange County. This "fact" was used to directly state this is the reason this route must be constructed. However, when pressed hard by a local council member, the TCA begrudingly admitted the other alternative routes would also provide more than 13,000 construction jobs. I'm really worrried about them this time around. Jobs are scarce. The California and US economies are in shambles. People are frightened. Nonetheless, here we have a world class surf break and a beautiful park that 4 generations of families have enjoyed camping and surfing. If you are at all inclined to Save Trestles, please do. Hey and Hi Billy,
it makes me wonder with all the money that passes through the surf industry if anyone has ever done a commercial benefits survey outlining what having a top surf break and local surf industry brings to a community.
Golf sailing and boating have no problems selling their agenda to City Hall, why can't surfing + I surf I vote etc.
Big factor for all reading this every surf spot lost to development means more crowds at your local beach.
Here in Australia , tourist developers are trying to move in on the designated surfing reserve of Bell Beach.
So it is a world wide problem.
Surfers are being used without their permission and often their knowledge, to promote a lifestyle marketing campaign that will concrete over the very lifestyle in the end.
join. Surfers against Sewerage, Surfrider Foundation or any of your coastal protection groups and get active, and BTW read about the late John Kelly's life, and realise how damaged Hawaii would be without his actions.

As you say, it's a world wide problem. Check out http://www.savethewaves.org to see some of the waves that are currently under threat, and some that have unfortunately already been destroyed. If you know of a wave that's under threat, you can let them know.

Unfortunately, there are a number of state parks closing, over 70 of them in California. Google "70 california parks to close". My aunt works for a group that is trying to keep these available to people, but California has other plans. It is a real shame. That's progress for you! Ya right.....

thank goodness for your devoted Aunt. Did as suggested. Looked at 70 parks on list. Some of the entries pulled my heart strings. Can't say your comment about "that's progress for you," is on the mark. It has more to do with limited funds. Had an experience a couple years ago in which I had a contract to perform work at 4 locations on San Francisco Bay Angel Island State Park. Coordination with Nat'l Park service allowed us to see their strain from lack of dollars and resources. But, as stated, heart strings are pulled when I see some of the parks on the list of 70. Not sure what can be done about all of that. Fantasy would allow them to close, but those of us with 4-wheel drive, motorcycles, and back country experience could go on and use them (safely and ecologically). Now this is something that isn't going to happen. FDR, as president, established many of our grand federal parks. He'd be quite sad with the state of the union. In fact, we all are. Tell you this, though, with what little time and money I have these days, I'm going to put some more effort into Trestles. Losing Trestles and San O state beach really would be a tragedy.

I was being facetious about progress as once these parks became closed they would no doubt be sold off and people would start building on them.

Great cause! Some of the Camp sites, etc at the state park are wonderful. Worth preserveing every one of them.
