New board, 6'8

Hey guys,

I am a med-low intermediate level surfer, and am looking for a good all-round travelboard and a replacement for my 6'4 fish for this winter. I am nowhere near the level where I would be concerned about the higher echleons of performance (channels, lightness, low volume etc) so I am perfectly happy on a thickly glassed epoxy tank, as the following is.6'8"

2 1/2"

I e-mailed the sellers asking about rocker, and it has a typically flattish shortboard rocker for British conditions. They also said: "It is short board rocker with slightly less nose lift."

My question is if I will be able to surf reefs with this? Will it be able to handle steep or even hollow waves? My main concern is pearling, as it is quite long with low rocker.

What's your weight & height?

I've got a 6'8" with a similar shape and it holds just fine when it gets steep and hollow; as much as i have the balls for anyway. My opinion is that if you line up at an angle and properly weight your back foot the effect of flat rocker can be minimized on take-off. It will have more of an effect on your surfing style. if you like to do a lot of up-and-down in the pocket you'll be bummed with a flat board. but if you value down-the-line speed it could be nice.

Thanks for reply! I am 6'2 and a touch under 11st (about 152lb). Would the take-off be a lot harder?

hmmm... i'm about 185lb and it's a little on the long side for me. it's nice to have in bigger surf, and i need the extra paddle power where i live but if i was 30lbs lighter and looking for an all around travel board i'd probably look smaller.

i don't think the take-off is much harder at all, just different, more like a longboard...

Just a quick note on circle one boards:
I was planning on buying a circle one board but then a surfer friend told me to call my local shaper to see what he thinks of them.
When I rang my shaper he told me they were a "pile of sh*t" and that they were almost impossible to fix once damaged.
If you are a beginner I would go for a popout like NSP or if you are more experienced get a glass board

Haha, thanks. I ended up getting the xpose 6'11. Saving it for more solid waves but it is only 2 1/4 thick so should duck dive like a dream.
