Just bought my first brand new board.. With dings? :\ (pics)

Postby rvcasrfr » Sat Jul 23, 2011 5:48 am

Picked up a fiberglass 9'2" for $300. I'm still a n00b surfer so I didn't really inspect it all that crazily because I didn't know what to look for anyway. Looked good after about 5 mins of looking over it so I pulled the trigger on it. But now that I'm home with it and really inspecting it, I'm noticing a few very small dings (one admittedly my fault from bumping it on something) and some scratches on the rail... Do I need to get the dings/scratches repaired? Also a couple very small air bubbles in the foam. I feel like these are normal things for a board to have, but I'm starting to get a little paranoid that I got ripped off.... Take a look at the pics and please let me know what you guys think..

There is such a thing as perceived perfection - we assume something is perfect in our mind, but on closer inspection nothing really is 8) .

Soooo, the marks on the rail might buff out by hand using a simple polish, the fiberglass we can see is due to a lack of saturation and the discolorations in the last pic – who knows !

Me ? - my longboard is battered to hell :ninja: !

I reckon the board is useable and if the cracks don’t feel catchy to your fingernail don’t worry – use it to hell to get your monies worth and tell the dude you got it off you totally love it!

After all – when you transform into a good surfer you will be able to surf anything in any state of repair – and you’ll alter it and just keep on having fun on it !

I state the above because: You have said you have dinged it since buying it, so taking it back might cost you due to that dent so ride and enjoy and repair if you need to – absorb and learn from the experiences coming :P

My main concern is just that I've got a board that has a crappy glass job and is going to start dinging and cracking like crazy from normal use

After one good wave on the board everything else won't matter. 10 years from now you may still have that board which means that board would have cost you $2.50 a month and given your countless hours of stoke. $300 weather perfect or not is a super fair deal on the board just off materials alone. Go have a super session on your new board.

You didn't get ripped off by any stretch. This is a good purchase. Now:
1. clean your room (photos reveal it's a mess), :D and
2. go surfing!
