Board + Vauxhall Astra

Postby blades1071 » Wed Jun 29, 2011 10:56 am

Hi everyone, a very warm welcome from myself!

I'm thinkning of changing car, but could anybody help me out on whether a board would fit on it well? The car is a 2002 Vauxhall Astra - would a longboard go on the roof without spilling over the front or back too much/at all? Or, would a board even go inside the car if the back seats were folded down?

Thanks for any help that anyone may have.

Once upon a time people drove volkswagens, and when poor surfers could afford nothing but used volkswagens they found they could transport even their longboards on roof racks. It wasn't a problem. Even the overhang wasn't a problem unless your tie downs were a problem.
Shorter boards were stuck diagonally inside, no need for passengers
Hatchback small cars were invented to help the surfer particularly in the UK, keep both the board and the fingers warm ( frosty fingers mean problem tie downs). longboards can fit in some cars, but hanging them out an open hatch is not a good idea each bump means cumulative dings and the open hatch wafts Carbon monoxide in through the hatch gap,. Not good for the health.

Also is your long board a long board or a short long board? The car dimensions are a little over 4 metres and some guys have found taking out the back seats in a sedan adds the boot space to the board carrying capacity.
I short I don't really know but I'd take my board along and see.

well - i dont think you will get the board inside the car...

i drive a toyota avensis sedan and my 6.8 funboard goes in just about, notable with folded down back seats...
so tbh, i dont realy think that a long board (which i assume is longer than my 6.8) will go inside an astra...
roof shouldnt be a problem tho.. as long as you tie id down propperly, no thing...

I managed to get my 8' minimal inside a ford puma. back seat down, and front seal fully reclined, and it went from boot edge to top of dashboard. also had it on a roof rack, when i had passengers.

just take a tape measure with you and measure the maximum lengths possible.

now have a toyota yaris verso, and it all fits in again, but has a seat for passenger aswell!!
