7'6" mini mal starter board?

Postby mexico66 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 11:21 am

Hi all.

I went to surf school 10 years ago for a couple of days, and went from foamy to hard board in 2 days, and previous to that i used to skateboard at high level, (mini ramp vert, street), so a bigineer with experience?

I'm 6ft 1 and 13 1/2 stone

I wondered if a 7' 6" mini mal would suit me.

I visit cornwall for work every 4 weeks overnight and wanted to finish what i started 10 years ago.

a 9' would be awkward to put in my hotel room

I started surfing 3 months ago. I rented a 8'4 mini mal for the first month or so and I bought my first board just over a month ago. I bought a 7'6 mini mal and I love it I have had no problems with it. I like you find a 9' long board very awkward (as well as ugly).

Go for it I say!

Jeebers Heebers
Your perceptions of a longboard as one ugly stick
have happened because of riding a BIC,
now with a board that is new and is short,
you've stickers and fashion, so I guess you are caught,
but in the end that all counts for nought,
cause it's all about surfing, the waves and the sport,
so ride what you like, and put fashion aside
it's about how you do it and not what you ride.

Haha. A nice bit of poetry there.

Ugly is maybe a bit mean and for those enjoy long boarding that may seem like a bit of a crappy thing to say. After all surfing is surfing. I ment no offence. I personally am not to interested in long boarding. I would like in time to work my way down to a short board. Yeah the BIC I was using was a bit off putting I suppose. As for stickers and fashion you have lost me there :? Im not sure where fashion comes into anything and I wouldnt dare put a sticker on my board. I nearly put an Incubus sticker on there but thought twice.

The stickers thing sort of floated over from the thread on wetsuit decals and really it doesn't matter, because it's other people's perception that is.
You have a board you love, end of story, and that's what I advocate.
The board will fit you mexican66 it will just require a little more work.
A 9ft will fit in a hotel room DIAGONALLY but will take out lots of furniture getting there.
In the end happily, surfing is still about doing your own thing :!:
Glad you like the poem

Jaffa, i learnt on a long board, and enjoyed it, i used to switch stanch on it, i couldnt do that on a mini mal without abit of work

The 9' is just awkward to transport and store not as awkward to look at or surf on seeing as i will be carrying my work kit aswell.

I have actually picked up a secondhand 7'11".

The width suits me perfect for popping up, it will only need to last me through till next spring, ideally i want to have a selection at my disposal.

As you can see from my intro when i skated i was a skater, not a street or vert skater.

There for i will surf, what i am on, what i look like, what my brands are, matters not

Although i do like the ideal of "skate boarding is not a crime sticker"

I just need advice on bits and pieces

No issue there Mex 66 it really is about surfing how you want to surf not about anybody else's perception.
MY game here on the threads is to just have gentle fun with what's going on.

This picture describes what surfing is without any hype about anything
