pop up move

Postby hava » Tue May 31, 2011 9:04 am

Hi,

How do you pop up without using your toes as a point start?
I surf on a long board .the toes are out of board when lying .

How can I use the water to pop up easily?I'm tall and also not very strong right now.

Thanks
!

The easy but slow way is to bring your knees up under your body, like doing a push up, slide your front knee to your chest, then (depending on your flexibility) either plant your front foot and stand, or post on your front knee then stand.

The harder but more effective way is to pop straight to both feet. Do this by kind of bouncing fron your hips and theighs. While pushing with your arms. Your toes have nothing to do with it.

No problem. Good luck. It also helps to practice on land. Do them on the ground, or a foam board on sand (fins protected)

Do them on land, but concentrate on not using your feet. I do it occasionally (when landlocked), and have my back legs in the air when I am lying down to make it so I cannot use my feet.

One trick you can do if you are having difficulty is bending your right leg sideways, and bringing your right foot forward and using it to push off the kickpad (if you have one). It is a little slower but a lot easier and more stable.

It is always slower to do it on land though as the floor doesn't have any give in it so you have to haul yourself up (as opposed to pushing the board down). Don't worry if it takes 2 seconds, instead of 1, or so.
