Noob needs board suggestions!

Postby phisherman » Mon May 09, 2011 3:03 am

Ok so I live on the East coast and tried surfing a few times last summer and want to buy a board. I have been snowboarding for five years and I will only be able to get out surfing 1-2 times a week. I'm about 5'7" and 135lbs. And I want a board that A. I will be able to learn on and B. Not grow out of too fast. Any suggestions on a board that isnt too pricey? Would a fish be really hard to start on?

the best call for you would be a longboard around 8 to 9 feet. ride that for a year or two then decide where to go from there. there's no better way to learn the basics than riding a longboard. There's so much you can do with them; it's impossible to grow out of one.

but it's really a style choice, if you're focused on riding a short stick then a fish would work. maybe something around 5.5 to 6 foot. you'll just be investing a lot more time paddling in the short term and it will take longer to learn.

Rent a few boards or borrow from friends and find out what you dig the most before laying the loot...
